Cinema is a lens through which we can better understand our world, or escape into new ones. At its best, it combines and improves upon all other art forms, and transcends the realm of aesthetic appreciation and steals directly into our minds and souls. In short, yes, a movie can be more than something you flip on to provide white noise while you play Farmville in your undies. Here are my personal favorites, be they well-known classics or underrated gems. Nota bene: The talk about order stems from the fact that, back when I wrote many of these posts, I was attempting the impossible venture of ranking these films! Ha!
